Some residents across South Louisiana spent part of a beautiful day yesterday cleaning up debris from strong thunderstorms that rolled through the area Tuesday evening. Most of the reported damage was in the form of tree damage. Either limbs or trees blown down and in some cases those trees and limbs actually falling on or near dwellings.

We could be in for another round of strong storms as we get our weekend started tomorrow. Forecasters with the Storm Prediction Center have placed most of Louisiana in the marginal risk zone for severe storms. However, in that marginal risk zone is a large swath where the risk of severe weather is even more elevated.  That forecast zone includes Lafayette, Lake Charles, Alexandria, and Opelousas.

Chief Meteorologist Rob Perillo and his team over at KATC have displayed some of the forecast models they use to predict our weather. Based on what Rob is showing us it looks as if our best chances of strong storms will begin sometime Friday afternoon.

Some portions of Acadiana could start to see showers and storms shortly after lunchtime but for the most part the really heavy storms associated with an approaching frontal system won't move into the area until five or six pm. There could be severe weather watches or warnings posted at that time.

One thing you will notice about Friday's weather. It will be windy. One thing you will notice about Saturday's weather, it will be decidedly cooler. One thing you will notice about Sunday's weather, it will be spectacular.

So, if we can dodge a few bumpy thunderstorms late Friday into early Saturday our weekend should be absolutely perfect. Oh, if you're wondering about the heat of Summer? It will be back by the end of next week.
