Lafayette Parish Mayors Issue Halloween/Covid Guidelines

Who would have ever thought that we would still be in the middle of a worldwide pandemic at the end of October in the United States? Coronavirus concerns have pretty much put a screeching halt to a whole bunch of our normal activities, and that is especially true when it comes to celebrating holidays.

With that being said, the Centers for Disease Control have deemed Halloween's traditional trick-or-treating a "high risk" activity in 2020, and frankly, we're not surprised. But a majority of Acadiana and Louisiana communities are allowing activities to continue for the holiday this weekend. Safely, of course.

According to KLFY the following Acadiana mayors have approved safety tips for Halloween festivities. Lafayette Mayor-President Josh Guillory, Broussard Mayor Ray Bourque, Carencro Mayor Glenn Brasseaux, Duson Mayor Johnny Thibodeaux, Scott Mayor Jan-Scott Richard and Youngsville Mayor Ken Ritter. Some of the tips from our mayors are listed below, but you can check out all of them from their press release before your kiddos put on their costumes and hit the streets, or you settle in for a spooky night of giving out treats. • Don’t wear gloves when handing out candy. Pre-wrapped goody bags are a good choice, and make sure to sanitize hands in between house visits.
• Halloween masks are not a substitute for real masks. Please ensure that proper face coverings are worn while out in public.
• Avoid activities in which germs can spread easily such as bobbing for apples or close-quartered haunted houses.
• Look for alternative Halloween activities, like "Trunk or Treat" or Drive Thru events
• Make sure you only go out during designated times, which in Acadiana is 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
